The Deputy Minister for Education U Nay Myo Hlaing and authorities concerned visited the study circles of basic literacy program in Loikaw township and encouraged local residents and ethnic groups participating in basic literacy program this evening.
The Deputy Minister first visited the study circles of the literacy program in Daw Tama quarter and stated that working groups had been formed in various states and regions to promote literacy rate of local residents and ethnic groups. He also noted that Kayah State was the first state that initiated the literacy campaign. He emphasized the importance of the learners’ attendance in the 40-day basic literacy program and the flextime for the instructors and coordinators. The Deputy Minister urged that once learners complete basic literacy program, it is needed for them to continue their learning process in the remaining life. After the address, he presented clothing, notebooks and funds to the learners.
The Deputy Minister and authorities concerned then visited Law Dhamma and Nam Bawwan literacy circles to inspect the teaching-learning process of basic literacy program and provided clothing, notebooks and funds to the learners.
With the collaboration of the Ministry of Education and Kayah State Government, and the technical support provided by the Department of Alternative Education, the ongoing basic literacy programs are being conducted in Loikaw township. A total of 208 learners are attending at 15 assembly points and 18 literacy circles in quarters and rural villages. The program is conducted from February 2 to March 13, with three hours per day on average, totaling 120 study hours.
