A ceremony of the curriculum development discussion for Teacher Education Universities in 2026-2027 academic year was held at Myat Pyinnyar Hall of Yankin Education Degree College in Yangon Region this morning.
The present on the occasion were the Union Minister for Education Dr Chaw Chaw Sein, the Deputy Minister Dr Zaw Myint, responsible officials, retired senior educators, principals and teachers from six Education Degree Colleges.
First, the Union Minister stated that Education Degree Colleges will be upgraded and opened as Teacher Education Universities in Mandalay, Pyay, Taunggyi, Pathein, and Thaton. She said that in upgrading them to universities, it is necessary to develop curricula aligned with the MA (Education) and MSc (Education) degree programs to be taught, including upper- secondary level basic education curricula and education-related subjects. She added that curriculum development will be carried out by forming Subject-Wise Curriculum Committees (SWCC) which include external experts, and Curriculum Development Teams (CDT) with teachers from Education Universities, Arts and Science Universities, the University for the Development of the National Races of the Union, and Education Degree Colleges. She also urged senior educators to support the successful upgrading of Education Degree Colleges into Teacher Education Universities.
After that, the Union Minister provided financial support for students from Yankin, Thingangyun, Hlegu, Hakha, Katha, and Lashio Education Degree Colleges to respective principals. Next, the Union Minister observed discussions on curriculum development in areas such as educational psychology, educational theory, curriculum, and teaching methodologies, and coordinated necessary actions.
Subsequently, the Union Minister attended a ceremony at Yangon University of Foreign Languages where Telecom International Myanmar (Mytel) and Mytel Wallet International Myanmar Co., Ltd handed over digital libraries to Yangon University of Foreign Languages and Yangon University of Education, and delivered an address.
Then, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mytel and Shareholder of MytelPay explained the handover of the Digital Library and Learning Management System. The rectors of Yangon University of Education and Yangon University of Foreign Languages shared words of appreciation, and a representative from Telecom International Myanmar Co., Ltd presented commemorative gifts to the Union Minister and the Deputy Minister.
Afterwards, the Digital Library was officially opened, and the attendees toured the Digital Library. It is reported that Telecom International Myanmar (Mytel) and Mytel Wallet International Myanmar Co., Ltd donated equipments and resources to Yangon University of Foreign Languages, including 1 projector, 19 desktop computers, 1 printer, and 50 Mbps service WiFi for 1 year, valued at an estimated value of 100 million kyats. Similarly, they donated 1 projector, 16 desktop computers, 1 printer, and 50 Mbps WiFi service for 1 year, valued at an estimated value of 160 million kyats to Yangon University of Education.
